The Symbolism of Butterfly Charms

The Symbolism of Butterfly Charms

We’re all familiar with butterflies, either stemming from memories in our gardens, or in one of the many butterfly conservatories dotting our cities. Aside from the jewel tones of their wings, what else comes to mind when you think of butterflies?

Butterflies have long been viewed as a symbol of transformation in many cultural myths and lore, mostly because of its impressive metamorphosis process. A number of cultures also associate the butterfly with the soul, further linking our symbolism of faith with the butterfly.

In Greek Mythology, Psych (which means ‘soul’) is represented in the form of a butterfly. Fittingly, Psyche is forever linked with love, as she and Eros (the Greek god of Love, also known in Roman myth as Cupid) shared an endlessly passionate bond together, both hopelessly in love with the other.

The Symbolism of Butterfly Charms

The symbolism of the butterfly carries a deep lesson for us, as the butterfly unquestioningly embraces the changes of both the environment and body as a step to something greater. It’s a fantastic reminder to keep our faith as we undergo transitions in our lives, and to understand that fretting, stressing out, and being angry are useless against the turning tides of nature.

The connection of the butterfly with the soul is fitting, as we’re all on long journeys of the soul. Our journey encompasses many twists and turns, conditions, and circumstances that change who we are into different human beings. At the end of this journey, we’re inevitably changed and shaped by the journey we’ve undertaken. Our journey is the only guarantee.

Butterfly charms inevitably have a fantastic place in jewellery for all ages. A simple butterfly wing makes a mature set of earrings or necklace that looks beautiful with crystals or pearls . You can add a butterfly charm to any charm bracelet, or dangle a set from a dainty set of earrings. Butterflies are a symbol that strike a chord with nearly any age group or culture, and butterfly charms will be sure to find a home in your designs this season.
