Bulk Chains, or chains by the meter, are a fundamental component for any jewelry designer. They add length without adding mass and, in the case of thick chains, they add mass without adding weight. Bulk silver chain; or gold-filled chain, by definition, is simply a chain that has not been finished with a clasp. Once it’s cut and a clasp and ends have been attached it’s called finished chain, and can be considered a necklace or bracelet that is ready to wear.
Thin bulk chains are highly versatile and can be used to create a plethora of statement earrings, from shoulder dusters, chandelier earrings, to tasseled earrings.

The trick is to use thin chains that are balanced in size with the components they’re paired with. When you want to use bulky and patterned chains; but feel that whole chains would be overwhelming, cut out sections and use them as findings from which to drop your beads.

Bulk chains are time-savers and one of the best tools for creating clusters, be they earring drops or larger clusters for the ends of lariat necklaces, especially when the chain has a slight pattern and allows for easy spacing.

The more the merrier! You don’t have to stick with using only one style of chain per necklace; let your creative juices flow! Add interest to your designs by layering different chains or incorporating cut sections from many different chains. Having numerous bulk chain styles on hand makes designing jewelry that much easier!
