Honeysuckle Necklace with Indian Rubies – Micro Welding Series Part 21

Honeysuckle Necklace with Indian Rubies – Micro Welding Series Part 21

In this video, I’m excited to show you how to create a beautiful honeysuckle necklace featuring exquisite Indian rubies. This project is perfect for those who want to explore their creativity and take their jewelry-making skills to the next level. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Preparing the Stamens

First, we’ll start by creating the delicate stamens that give this necklace its unique charm. The key to this step is using 24ga half hard wire. I prefer half-hard wire because it provides a smooth finish and maintains a gentle curve, making it ideal for this design. While you can also use hard or dead-soft wire, keep in mind that dead-soft wire may require additional forming to achieve the desired shape.

The process begins by balling the end of the wire. This ensures that the bead won’t slip off, creating a secure stop. You can either ball the wire before threading it through the bead or after, it’s up to you.

Step 2: Welding the Wire

When it comes to welding with, I use the mPulse Orion Micro Welder and I recommend starting with a lower power setting, around 7 watts. This allows the electrode to emit just enough heat to soften and round the wire without it melting too quickly. It’s important to consider factors like wire thickness and the condition of your electrode, as these can affect your results.

As you weld, you may need to make a few adjustments to get the ball at the end of the wire just right. If the ball isn’t large enough to stop the bead, simply repeat the process until it is. Remember, patience is key!

Step 3: Creating the Honeysuckle Necklace Components

Once your stamens are ready, it’s time to move on to the next step. You’ll want to cut the wire to your desired length and create a small loop at the end. If you’re planning to gather multiple stamens together, you can skip welding the loop, as the final assembly will hold everything in place.

Using flat pliers, shape the loop into a tiny keyhole that will later accommodate a jump ring. This is where your design really starts to come together! Continue making more stamens, varying their lengths for added visual interest.

Step 4: Assembling the Honeysuckle Necklace

Now that you have your stamens ready, it’s time to assemble the necklace. Thread each stamen through the beads and gather them together, making sure to arrange them at different lengths. This will create a dynamic, layered effect.

Once you’re happy with the arrangement, twist the wires together and tuck them inside a cone-shaped cap. This not only secures the stamens but also adds a professional finish to your piece. If any wires stick out, don’t worry—you can easily trim and adjust them.

Step 5: Final Adjustments and Finishing Touches

With the main components in place, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Attach a jump ring to the gathered wires, and weld it securely. This will serve as the point where your necklace chain will be attached.

Finally, thread the chain through the jump ring and make any final adjustments to the stamens. You can curve them slightly to add movement or leave them straight for a more classic look. The choice is yours!

The Finished Product

And there you have it, a stunning honeysuckle necklace with Indian rubies, crafted with care and creativity. This piece is sure to turn heads and become a treasured addition to any jewelry collection.
